Theo is a brave character and incredibly laid-back. He's happy to participate in energetic play sessions with the rest of the herd and equally happy waiting by the fence for a scratch behind the ears.
Theo's demeanour is a world away from the nervous donkey we found on the night of his rescue. Theo was rescued on a cold New Year's Eve alongside his friend Connie and his son David.
Theo now lives at The Donkey Sanctuary Leeds with David, and the pair love spending time together. They have an excellent bond but, like all parents, Theo enjoys some peace and quiet every now and then!

Important news about our regional centres
The Donkey Sanctuary is proposing the closure of four of our Donkey Assisted Activity (DAA) centres in Manchester, Ivybridge, Birmingham and Leeds, and for Belfast to become a small sanctuary and re-homing centre. This is subject to a consultation process, which begins week commencing 20 May.
The changes are being proposed to ensure we can continue to deliver our core mission to improve the welfare of donkeys in the UK and around the world.
Throughout the consultation period, all centres involved will be closed to visitors and we will be in touch with all those who have booked visits. Our main site in Sidmouth, Devon, remains open to visitors.
No decisions will be made about the long-term future of the centres until after the consultation process has been concluded in early August 2024. We will endeavour to contact all those impacted as soon as the outcome is known.
